Can I take it in my carry-on?
Each packet holds 5 mL (0.17 fl oz), well under the 3.4 oz (100 mL) per-container limit TSA sets for liquids, gels and creams in carry-on bags. Pack them in your quart-sized liquids bag like any other travel-size item.
How often should I reapply?
Reach for a fresh sachet every two hours, or right after a swim and towel-off. Shield is water resistant for 80 minutes.
Do I have to wait before going in the sun?
Yes. Apply it 15 minutes before you go out, which is what the packet says. That direction is required on every sunscreen sold in the US, mineral ones included.
What makes it reef-safe?
Shield uses one mineral filter — 17.50% non-nano zinc oxide — and none of the four chemicals most implicated in coral bleaching. It is compliant with Hawaii Act 104.
Does it leave a white cast?
It goes on with a bloom. Rub it in thoroughly and it settles — that is true of every zinc oxide sunscreen, ours included.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Zinc oxide is non-nano, so the particles are too large to be absorbed — they protect, then rinse off. Shield is formulated for sensitive skin and for kids 6 months and up; for a baby under 6 months, ask a doctor first. As the label says, do not use it on damaged or broken skin.
